How to Play Guess the Song Over Text
- One player picks a song and sends a clue over text. This can be a line from the lyrics (avoid the chorus — too easy), an emoji representation, or a vague description of the music video.
- The other player guesses the song title and artist. They get up to 3 guesses per round before asking for another clue.
- If the first clue doesn't work, send a second, easier clue. Maybe a more recognizable lyric or the year it came out. You can give up to 3 clues total.
- Reveal the answer after they guess correctly or run out of clues. Award 3 points for a first-clue guess, 2 for second, 1 for third. Then swap roles.
Rules
- No Shazam, no Googling lyrics, no asking Alexa. This is a test of what's actually in your head.
- Pick songs the other person has a reasonable chance of knowing. Deep cuts from obscure bands aren't fun for anyone.
- The song title and artist must both be correct for full points. Title alone gets half credit.
- Don't send the most famous line of the song as your first clue. Start tricky, then get easier.
- Both players should agree on a genre or era if musical tastes are very different.

Tips & Variations
- Try the "Emoji Only" version where you represent the song using only emojis. "🎸🏨🦅" = Hotel California.
- Play "Decade Mode" where all songs must be from a specific decade. The 80s and 2000s are goldmines for this.
- In a group chat, first person to guess correctly gets the points. It turns into a race and gets competitive fast.
- Build a shared playlist of all the songs that come up during the game. You'll end up with a great mix by the end.
